In their heyday, The Roolettes out of London were quite the little band. Three blokes doing punk just the way people idealize it as, sweaty balls to the floor distressed rock, glamourous in just the right kind of understated way, looking like the kind of people you’d want a poster of up on your bedroom wall, while at the same time, rough enough that you wouldn’t probably heckle them for fear of a flying pint glass coming your way. …but then they went and made us all a little sad with a dreadful two year hiatus.
You were sad, I know you were because I was, we’re emotionally very finely tuned you and I, it’s a beautiful thing.
Well, we can both be happy now, since the Roolettes have reformed and are playing their very first gig together again right here in Berlin, at the very-perfect-for-the-occasion White Trash Fast Food. I know you’re happy at hearing that, since we’re so finely tuned and all. Beautiful thing.
Here’s a clip, Cigarette Breakdown from The Roolettes (2007):
The story is, now that they’re back they’ll be re-releasing the first self titled LP and then getting a new one together for a 2011 release. Which is wicked. We should offer to help in the recording. We can sing chorus or something. Or maybe just wipe sweat from their brows and fetch them beers while they work.
You can wipe sweat and I’ll fetch beers. Deal!
